Welcome to UK Sailmakers
Founded in 1946 in New York City as Ulmer Sails, UK Sailmakers is one of the world's most established groups of sail makers with nearly 50 lofts and service centers. It is our goal to deliver sails using the most advanced design technologies and materials. Our lofts retain the personal touch that sailors expect since all UK Sailmakers lofts are owned by local sailors, who know the needs of their sailing communities. That's why each loft prides itself in providing quick, high-quality service along with well-designed, long-lasting sails.
News: Phil "Phizzle" Houghton joins UK Sailmakers in New Zealand
UK Sailmakers New Zealand is located in the marine hub two hours north of Auckland. Whangarei is the destination for cruisers who cross the Pacific to be out of the cyclone belt for the summer months. The loft is run by Phil "Phizzle" Houghton who has vast sailmaking experience that goes back 33 to making sails for New Zealand’s first America’s Cup challenger, KZ1, in 1986 as well as for the Whitbread maxi’s STEINLAGER I and II. He was also the shore sailmaker for YAMAHA, which won the Whitbread 60 class in the 1993-1994 Whitbread Round the World Race. Before joining the UK Sailmakers group, Phizzle oversaw the superyacht services for Doyle Sailmakers. His racing experience is vast with thousands of miles of ocean races that include Sydney to Hobart races, races to Fiji and Noumea as well as major international race weeks including Key West and Hamilton Island. And, if that isn’t tough enough, twice he raced double-handed around New Zealand’s North Island. Call or stop by the loft to talk about sail service, sail handling or even new sails!
