What Is a Stabilizing Spinnaker?
Unlike conventional spinnakers and gennakers, a stabilizing spinnaker carries an integrated lifting wing. That wing acts as a batten across the middle of the sail — flattening the mid-section, cutting downwind rolling, and generating lift that, in a breeze, helps keep the bow from burying. The result is a faster, far more stable and controlled downwind ride than a conventional spinnaker can produce. How the Lifting Wing Works
For long-distance cruisers, especially those relying on an autopilot, the payoff is real. The lifting wing helps balance the sail, which reduces rudder pressure and minimizes the constant course corrections a normal spinnaker demands. That adds up to more efficient autopilot operation, lower power consumption, and a smoother ride overall.

It’s generally best to fly a stabilizing spinnaker as a stand-alone sail, without a mainsail, since the main disrupts the airflow around the wing. If you do need to carry the main, reef it so that the head of the mainsail sits beneath the wing.

Inflatable Wing
Best for stronger winds & gusts
A fully three-dimensional, airfoil-shaped wing that inflates as wind flows through the vent. It works as a soft batten, flattening the sail and dumping excess pressure to hold its shape across a broad range of angles. The natural choice for rougher conditions, gusty days, and modern wide-stern boats that carry their beam aft and benefit from the extra lift.

Standard Wing
Best for lighter air
A fixed, curved wing that generates lift with a smooth, predictable response. It flattens the sail less than the inflatable wing but needs less wind to work, which makes it ideal for lighter and more moderate conditions — and for heavy-displacement yachts that don’t need the gust-handling of the inflatable version.

Dousing & Handling
To make handling easy, every stabilizing spinnaker comes with a dousing sock, or snuffer. You can choose between classic rigid oval models and inflatable dousing socks. Both use a two-stage control system that keeps the sail from jamming in the snuffer.
The inflatable dousing sock pairs a durable Dacron outer layer with an inflatable inner tube, forming a resilient yet lightweight snuffer collar. It inflates and deflates quickly, so it’s easy to stow and deploy — and the softer construction is far less likely to scratch the mast.

How do I douse it?
Every stabilizing spinnaker comes with a dousing sock. You can choose a classic rigid oval snuffer or an inflatable one; both use a two-stage control system so the sail won’t jam. The inflatable sock has a Dacron outer and an inflatable inner tube — light, quick to deploy and stow, and gentler on the mast.
