Racing Sails
UK Sailmakers makes racing sails for all kinds of boats, sailors, and budgets. UK Sailmakers uses powerful computer modeling and analysis programs to design race-winning sails that will hold up to the strains and stresses of the race course. Modern CAD programs allow sail designers to rely more on proven numbers than on old fashion intuition.
Racing Mainsails
Your mainsail is the most tireless worker on your boat. Whether crossing the starting line in a drifter or reefed down in 30 knots, the same mainsail needs to hold a fast shape. No matter what construction system or cloth material is used, all of our racing mains are custom designed for your boat and the conditions you typically race in.
Racing Genoas, and Jibs
Customizing your racing headsail inventory will improve your boat’s performance around the buoys and during distance races. Having the right sized and shaped headsail for the conditions will always be faster. Your local UK Sailmaker works with you to build a headsail inventory that works for your racing requirements as well as budget.
Spinnakers
Just as with headsails, an inventory of spinnakers (be they symmetrical or asymmetrical) is necessary to best cover the range of wind speeds and wind angles you will be racing in. Work with your local UK Sailmaker to determine which sails will serve you best.
Racing Specialty Sails
Code Zeros, Flying Sails, Flying Jibs, Jib Topsails, and Staysails are available from UK Sailmakers. Click here to learn the difference between these different reaching sails.
One-Design Sails
Winning one-design sails requires time in the class to figure out what shapes are fast and how to tune the boat over a range of wind conditions. While we don’t make sails for all one-design classes, the ones we are involved in have winners with our sails.
Storm Sails
Just as with headsails, an inventory of spinnakers (be they symmetrical or asymmetrical) is necessary to best cover the range of wind speeds and wind angles you will be racing in. Work with your local UK Sailmaker to determine which sails will serve you best.
Racing Options and Accessories
Since many club and regional racers use one set of sails for both racing and cruising, many of the options and accessories are popular for all sailors. If fact, shorthanded racers and cruising couples have similar sail-handling needs.
Racing Sail Production Methods
Our Titanium and X-Drive construction methods utilize continuous load path fibers between the three corners of the sail to best control seam creep and distortion. All our production methods provide the highest quality of sailmaking with attention to detail.
