Overlapping Genoa

Before 1990, almost all boats came standard with genoas that overlapped the mast. Yacht designers created sail plans that needed the power of these big sails to get the boat up to speed in light and medium winds. Since the early 21st century, yacht designs moved to creating sail plans with taller masts, bigger mainsails, and non-overlapping genoas.
