Design and construction
UK Sailmakers uses state of the art proprietary sail design software to create fast spinnakers. Our sailmakers are committed to the development, design and testing of symmetrical and asymmetrical spinnakers for boats ranging from small one-designs to America’s Cup. Our experiences on boats around the world have given us a vast knowledge base to serve all racers.
Asymmetrical spinnakers flown from a centerline sprit, whether retractable or fixed, have become popular on racing boats because they take fewer crew members to jibe and are easier to trim. Jibing is easier because there is no spinnaker pole to move. Never again does the crew have to deal with end-for-end jibes on a rolling foredeck or a perfectly choreographed dip-pole jibe. The asymmetrical shape makes these sails easier to trim as well as jibe. With the luff longer then the leech and the draft is closer to the front of the sail, not in the middle, which makes the sail steadier and prevents the boat from rolling rail to rail.
