UK Sailmakers Germany on Course as the Official Sailmaker of the Deutsche Segel-Bundesliga

This season marks an exciting milestone: the debut of UK Sailmakers one-design sails in the Deutsche Segel-Bundesliga (DSBL). As the official sailmaker for Germany’s premier team-based sailing league, UK Sailmakers Germany is proud to support every club with sails designed for consistency, fairness, and speed.

A League Like No Other

The DSBL is not your typical regatta. Instead of individual campaigns, it’s club vs. club: Germany’s top sailing associations face off in short, tactical J/70 races. Every team competes on identical boats, rotating gear to ensure a true test of skill, strategy, and teamwork. With qualification spots for the Sailing Champions League on the line, every race matters.

New Sails Take the Stage in Berlin

After the summer break, the league resumed with the fourth weekend of racing (August 8–10) hosted by the Berlin Yacht Club. This was the moment UK Sailmakers sails officially made their debut on the Bundesliga racecourse.

Conditions were mixed, with light winds on some days and stronger breezes testing the fleet on others. Racing was intense:

  • Munich Yacht Club and Joersfelder Sailing Club battled hard at the top of Division One, trading podium spots across the weekend.
  • Überlingen Sail and Powerboat Club clinched the Division One win, reaffirming their position as league contenders.
  • In the Second Division, competition was very tight, until the final day when Regatta Sailor Neuruppin really pressed the gas pedal with five first place finishes in a row to secure the victory for their club.

The sails’ debut weekend showed their reliability and performance across a wide range of conditions, setting the stage for the second half of the season.

Proving Grounds at Kiel Week

That same performance edge was already on display at Kiel Week, where helmsman Lukas Feuerherdt and the Blankenese Sailing Club team—sailing with brand-new J/70 sails of the same design used in the Bundesliga—secured an impressive 5th place overall in one of the world’s most competitive J/70 events.

It was a strong validation that these sails aren’t just equalizers for fair competition, they’re also capable of delivering results at the very highest level of one-design racing.

What’s Next

The next Bundesliga showdown takes place September 19–21 at the Potsdam Yacht Club in Berlin. With just three weekends of racing left in the season, every point counts in the battle for Sailing Champions League qualification. The concept of the Sailing Champions League is straightforward: it’s the championship of national champions, where the top clubs from sailing leagues around the world go head-to-head to claim the title of “Best Sailing Club of the Year.”

As the official sailmaker of the Deutsche Segel-Bundesliga, UK Sailmakers Germany is proud to be at the heart of the action—delivering consistent, high-performance sails that ensure fair competition for every team on the starting line.
