Belgian sailor, Quentin Debois, will attempt to tackle a double solo Atlantic speed record later this year.
We’re excited to share that UK Sailmakers Belgium is a proud sponsor of an extraordinary project: Belgian solo sailor Quentin Debois will be attempting not one, but two solo Atlantic crossings in his 6.50-metre Mini Transat — and he’ll be doing it with sails from UK Sailmakers.
His first challenge is an east-to-west crossing from Cádiz to the Bahamas, roughly 7,200 km across the Atlantic. Then, in 2026, he’ll take on the return west-to-east route from New York to Cape Lizard in Cornwall, adding another 5,300 km to this remarkable endeavour. Both crossings will be sailed single-handed in one of the smallest offshore racing classes in the world.

Quentin’s Mini Transat will be powered by UK Sailmakers, a partnership that highlights our commitment to high-performance offshore sailing — and reminds sailors everywhere that with the right sails, you can truly Sail With Confidence.
While UK Sailmakers Belgium is leading the project, Quentin is also benefitting from the expertise and assistance of the entire UK Sailmakers network to fine-tune his sail inventory, prep the boat, and optimise the setup for two demanding ocean records. It’s a great example of how our global loft network comes together to support ambitious sailors — and how that teamwork enables these bold adventures.

The first departure is planned for December 2025, with timing dependent on weather windows. The second record attempt is slated for June 2026. As Quentin puts it, this challenge is as much a human and team effort as it is a solo adventure, and that spirit aligns perfectly with how we work across the UK Sailmakers group.
We wish Quentin every success as he prepares, and we’ll be proudly following and sharing his journey from the loft floor to the open Atlantic.
