The 2024 Offshore Regatta Circuit has come to an exhilarating close with DIABOLIC, Glenn De Brouwer’s Sun Fast 35, securing the overall victory. The Diabolic Sailing Team, predominantly racing double-handed with a suit of UK Sailmakers sails—including high-performance Titanium upwind sails—has once again demonstrated its dominance in offshore racing.
With victories in the La Ruta de la Sal and Rei en Jaume regattas, and a strong fourth-place finish in La Ruta de la Tramuntana, DIABOLIC was the clear winner of the circuit before the final race, the Golden Cup Badalona.
A Competitive Circuit
The Offshore Regatta Circuit consists of five prestigious races, each offering a unique challenge for sailors throughout the year, with a variety of sailing areas and distances.
- The Salt Route: A 140nm crossing from Port Ginesta (Barcelona) to Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza.
- Pollença Bay: A 104nm crossing from Barcelona to Port de Pollença, Mallorca.
- The Tramuntana Route: A coastal regatta and a round-trip race off the Costa Brava.
- Rei en Jaume: A challenging 110nm test from Salou to Santa Ponça, Mallorca.
- Golden Cup Badalona: A 60nm coastal race, plus a short 20-mile race along the Barcelona coastline.
Boats are rated using the ORC system, with 35 competitors entering the event. For a chance to win the championship, teams needed to compete in at least two of the five circuit races. This year, DIABOLIC took an early lead, maintaining an unbeatable performance throughout the series by racing in four of the five events and finishing in the top six for each.
Stellar Performance by DIABOLIC
DIABOLIC showed its exceptional offshore racing talent throughout the season. Glenn De Brouwer and his crew—racing for the Royal Belgium Sailing Club—have become familiar faces in the Mediterranean regatta scene, consistently performing at the highest level.
DIABOLIC’s victories in the La Ruta de la Sal and Rei en Jaume regattas were key to winning the circuit, while a fourth-place finish in the La Ruta de la Tramuntana sealed their success. As the overall winner, DIABOLIC has earned the coveted Ausmar Award.
