The 2025 1720 European Championships wrapped up on Galway Bay earlier this month in an action-packed series that saw shifting conditions, dismastings, and fierce competition across the 16-boat fleet. Despite the challenges, Baltimore Sailing Club’s SPICED BEEF, skippered by Fionn Lyden, delivered a commanding performance to take the top spot — a significant win for both the team and for UK Sailmakers Ireland’s one design sails.
Lyden and crew gained momentum throughout the series, delivering a consistently solid performance to close out the nine-race series with a six-point margin over their nearest rival. A second-place finish in the final race secured their overall victory with 27 points, ahead of DUTCH GOLD from Kinsale (33 points), and ROPE DOCK ATARA (34 points).

Defending champion Ross McDonald, sailing ROPE DOCK ATARA out of Howth Yacht Club, returned to the podium with a strong showing and a race win to end the series, earning third overall. McDonald’s team — also longtime UK Sailmakers customers — faced stiff competition in one of the most hotly contested editions of the Europeans in recent memory.

Credit goes to the race committee and volunteers for successfully delivering a nine-race series despite light wind delays and two dismastings that shuffled the leaderboard on day two. The championship was a true test of resilience, sharp tactics, and dependable equipment — and a proud moment for UK Sailmakers Ireland, whose sails helped power both SPICED BEEF and ROPE DOCK ATARA to podium finishes.
