How to build a useful crossover chart
A crossover chart is the fastest way to see whether your inventory actually covers the conditions you sail in — and where two sails are doing the same job.
1 · LIST YOUR SAILS
Start with what you own — main, headsails, and every downwind sail. Name them the way your crew calls them on the boat.
2 · SET THE RANGES
Enter the true wind speed and angle each sail is happy in. Be honest about the top end — that is where sails get hurt.
3 · LOOK FOR GAPS
White space is a hole in the inventory; heavy overlap means two sails competing for the same job. Both are worth a conversation.
4 · BRING IT TO YOUR LOFT
Print the chart and send it with your quote request. It tells your sailmaker more about how you sail than any form can.
