01 — THE GRID
Continuous carbon load paths
Titanium sails are made with a grid of continuous carbon loadpath yarns running unbroken between the three corners of the sail. Those yarns follow the load map our designers compute for your rig and your sailing, so the fibers carry the loads instead of the cloth.
02 — THE DRY LAY
No glue on the yarns
In the Titanium construction process the yarns are laid dry — without glue — to reduce weight and to prevent the carbon from becoming brittle. Not coating the yarns makes for lighter, more flexible, more durable sails, by 15–30%: happier foredeck teams, and owners who aren’t replacing misshapen sails as often.
03 — THE SKINS
3D-shaped film, inside and out
The outer mylar films are the epidermis of the sail, protecting and holding all the layers together. Shiny and weatherproof outside, the black or grey PET skins are tacky inside from a copolymer coating — that’s what holds the yarns and films in place until the final lamination is complete.

Uni-Titanium: the greatest shape retention we build.
UK Sailmakers developed Uni-Titanium — membrane sails with sheets of uni-directional carbon added to the continuous carbon fiber layout in a leech-to-luff orientation — for the greatest shape retention of any sail construction method.
The uni-directional carbon sheets have the thickness of magnetic tape and are just as light. The four layers in a Uni-Titanium sail are placed in a variable geometry thermo form, in which the sail is UV-bonded under vacuum pressure to become a one-piece finished sail.

Early Titanium sails featured an exposed PET film on the exterior, making them exceptionally lightweight but more vulnerable to wear from tacking and sail handling. Today, Titanium sails are made with a protective layer of LiteSkin® or taffeta on their surface, significantly extending their peak performance lifespan with minimal added weight.
LiteSkin® is a thin, non-woven polyester layer applied to the sail’s outer surfaces, giving it a matte black or dark grey finish. It comes in two weights—10×10 for added durability and 5×5, which is half the weight for minimal impact on performance.
Taffeta is a lightweight, finely woven polyester cloth that provides even greater protection. While slightly heavier than LiteSkin®, it offers increased durability, making it ideal for sailors prioritizing longevity and ruggedness. View Titanium Cruising Genoas →
