DO NOT measure old sails - they stretch over time. Include unique details about old sails (hardware, patches, etc.)
Use steel or fiberglass reinforced measuring tape
Attach separate pull-down line on halyard before hoisting
Do not rely on measuring tape to pull halyard down
TENSION THE BACKSTAY TO AVERAGE UPWIND SETTING BEFORE TAKING MEASUREMENTS

Main Sail Measurements

Max Luff (Main halyard pulled as high as possible, measuring to gooseneck top) inches Measured to the band Straight Line Leech (To bearing point on outhaul car when halyard is fully hoisted) inches Mast Bend (Amount of mast bend attaching halyard to gooseneck and winching tight) inches Measured in inches between mast and halyard. Maximum Luff Measurements

For roller furlers: Attach tape to lower shackle of halyard swivel and measure to tack shackle on furling drum

For no furler: Attach tape to genoa halyard shackle and raise halyard as high as possible
